About Athena
They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now! Athena is a lovely 9-10 year old Labrador Retriever who is truly embracing her golden years. With her calm and even-keel demeanor, Athena is past the puppy stage and enjoys leisurely strolls around the neighborhood. She walks gently on the leash and likes to take her time, leading the way as she explores. This sweet girl loves to patrol the yard, always on alert to keep it free of squirrels. While not one for toys, Athena is a true foodie and relishes mealtime, making her quite the clever treat-taker—she's definitely skilled at eating around her daily medication if you’re not careful! Athena appears to form close bonds, especially with women, often following her foster mom around and stealing dad's spot in bed at night. She has shown she can happily accept pats and attention from older children and neighbors during walks, indicating she’d fit well in a home with older kids. While Athena has lived peacefully with another laid-back dog her size, she would likely thrive as the only dog in the home, as she prefers the quiet life and isn’t fond of younger or more energetic canine companions. She’s not suitable for a home with cats, since they activate her chase instincts. Athena is looking for a family that isn’t gone for long hours because she enjoys the company of her people too much to be alone all day. Her daily routine includes a walk to keep her healthy and happy, and she will need to stay on her prescription mobility medications long-term. Athena’s adoption fee includes her spay, microchip, up-to-date vaccinations and preventatives, as well as a complimentary obedience course. Last Hope Animal Rescue requires that all pets are kept indoors, altered, and current on vaccinations and preventatives, and their process includes a vet check and home visit.
