About Amaya Papaya

Start your journey together! Apply now. Meet Amaya—A gentle, radiant soul whose heart shines despite the hardships she has faced. Once surrendered simply because she could no longer be bred, Amaya arrived at the shelter as an unwanted euthanasia request, but her joyful nature and wagging nub stole the hearts of the compassionate shelter team who gave her a second chance. Amaya's resilience is inspiring; she lights up every space with her warmth and is always ready to make new friends. She’s a true social butterfly, bringing smiles wherever she goes and thriving in the company of both people and other dogs—she can even keep pace with playful young pups! Though she has chronic dry eye as a result of past neglect, a little extra care—a quick eye wipe after naps and daily lubricating drops—keeps her comfortable and bright-eyed. Currently, Amaya is enrolled in the Hamilton Hounds Prison Program, mastering her leash skills, learning new tricks, and perfecting her manners. Her affection for people is matched only by her love of food and play, especially a lively game of tug-of-war. Amaya dreams of a forever family who will treasure her soulful, cuddly nature and maybe spoil her with a bit of "princess treatment," especially at mealtime with a spoonful of her favorite wet food. Amaya is loyal, endlessly loving, and ready to brighten the life of a family who will cherish her for the radiant, resilient companion she is.
