About Basil I'm A
Start your journey together! Apply now. Basil’s journey began with a series of medical challenges that shaped his unique and resilient spirit. At just six months old, he bravely underwent cataract surgery for a severe eye condition; unfortunately, after his original owners could not complete his treatment plan, he was left visually impaired and surrendered to a Doberman rescue in Florida in January 2022. The closure of that rescue gave Basil the chance to continue his care and recovery at DRU, where he’s been under the supervision of a veterinary ophthalmology specialist. Basil received eyedrops twice daily in an effort to restore some vision, but significant damage to his left eye meant it had to be removed. While he now retains only partial sight in his right eye, Basil’s determined nature shines through every day, and he will need ongoing medical management for life. Because of his vision issues, Basil is searching for a calm, understanding home—ideally as the only dog with an experienced Doberman owner who is dedicated to maintaining his medication and supporting his behavioral quirks as a SSNAP Dog. His story is a testament to courage and the healing power of compassionate care. If you’re able to open your heart and home to a special Doberman in need, Basil is looking for someone ready to guide him through the next chapter of his life. Did you know Basil is a Cancer? Sensitive and deeply loyal, Cancers are known for their loving nature and resilience, which fits him perfectly. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
