About Beck

Meet Beck, your new best friend! He has been waiting for almost THREE YEARS for his forever home. He is a 5-year-old mastiff/shepherd mix that is very smart and sweet. He knows sit, shake, down, and go to your place (his kennel). He will also lay on a blanket for ‘place’ if you sit one out for him. He absolutely loves to play and gives the best cuddles. He will also put his butt in the air for scratches and do somersaults onto his back for belly rubs. He is about 80 pounds but strongly believes that he could be a lap dog. Now I shouldn’t have favorites, but this is the best foster dog I have ever had. I cannot believe that we have not found his perfect match yet. He has so much love to give and deserves the world. He is a staff favorite as well and steals the heart of everyone he meets. Beck was adopted for several months and lost almost 15 pounds and came back extremely stressed. It was unfortunately not a good environment for him, but we did learn from this that he absolutely loves kids. He had to be on anxiety medications for a couple months to decompress but is now thankfully back to his best self. He is not currently on any medications and is doing well, but a boarding facility is no place for a dog to live forever, especially not one this amazing. Now for his quirks: He has separation anxiety from his people and needs a heavy-duty kennel when left home alone. He is also an acrobat and can jump 4–6-foot fences so he would need to be kept on a long leash for at least a few months until he was fully adjusted to his new home. He is a Velcro dog so he will choose to be by you and come back inside but should not just be left outside alone unsupervised. He can be nervous of new men at first because we believe he had a history of abuse and will give a big boy bark but has never tried to bite. Once he knows you, he is the biggest baby in the world. He gets along with most dogs with a slow introduction but should not be around cats.
