About Hope

Meet Hope The 8-Pound, Three-Legged Tornado Who Didn't Get the Memo About Slowing Down Let's address the leg situation immediately, because Hope certainly doesn't dwell on it. She had her front leg amputated recently. She thought about it for approximately zero seconds and then went back to zooming around the house at full speed. Hope did not come here to be slowed down. Hope came here to live — and she is doing that with every ounce of her tiny, 8-pound, 10-month-old self. This Shih-Tzu mix puppy is friendly, joyful, fast, and running on the kind of pure unfiltered happiness that makes you wonder if you've ever actually appreciated a single day of your life the way Hope appreciates every single moment of hers. - When Hope gets excited — which is frequently, because life is exciting — she will zoom around your house like a fluffy three-legged comet. It's part aerobics demonstration, part interpretive dance, part chaos. It's wonderful. - After the zoomies have been thoroughly completed, Hope is also a perfectly lovely crate-relaxer and a fully capable couch-jumper. Three legs, no problem, one fluid leap. Athleticism is not the issue here. - She's also just beginning to come out of her shell and discovering the joy of toys — and watching a puppy experience play for the first time is exactly as heartwarming as it sounds. - She's potty trained and goes outside regularly like the civilized little lady she is — with one charming exception. When someone she loves comes home, the excitement occasionally overrides all systems and there may be a small piddle situation on the floor. Hope loves so intensely her body cannot contain it. - Other dogs? Loves them. Cats? Still gathering data on that front — a home that can do slow introductions would be ideal. - She has puppy energy because she IS a puppy — and a puppy who has already proven she can handle more than most dogs twice her age and four times her legs. Hope's name is not an accident. She is living proof that setbacks are just plot twists, that joy is a choice made daily, and that you absolutely can zoom around a house on three legs if your heart is in it. She doesn't need your sympathy. She needs your couch, your backyard, your other dog to play with, and someone who will match her enthusiasm for being alive. She's already got the hope part covered. She just needs you to bring the home. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
