Meet Pretty! This easygoing gal was surrendered to the shelter on April 27th, when her family was moving and couldn't bring her along. Pretty was a much-loved family dog who previously lived with an older child, two cats, and another dog, and can't wait to find herself a new place to call home! Pretty's owners described her as a "very happy and friendly" girl with a high energy level, the kind of dog who loves to spend her time just cuddled up next to her family. She's a quick learner too - she is housebroken and knows to use puppy pads inside the home, and responds to "sit" and "stay." She hasn't previously been walked on a leash, though, so may need a little help with leash training. Her favorite activity is chewing on bones! Pretty received a medical intake exam and was noted to be friendly and quiet throughout the examination. No concerning medical needs were found, though she is a bit on the overweight side and would benefit from an active family and a healthy diet to help her shed a few pounds! Interested in meeting Pretty? Come to ACCT Philly, open daily from 10am to 6pm! Behavior Notes: per volunteer 4/29: Pretty is in a crate in I row, an owner surrender and housetrained so it was important she get outside time. When she saw me, she moved to the back of the crate. I opened the door, tossed the leash over her like a lasso, but even with the leash secure around her and a gentle tug, she didn't want to come out. I pulled the sheets out of her crate that she was sitting on, and she got up and walked out. I thought maybe she should be a little cantankerous, but she wasn't. She displayed no kind of aggression, no growling, no baring teeth, nothing. I guess she's trying to accept what just happened to her. Pretty is quite a lot overweight, but she sets a nice little walking pace and she seems to be trying to stay housetrained. We passed a couple dogs in yards, but she had no reaction to them - just didn't give a hoot about him. She allowed neck rubs, butt scratches and pets along her back, but didnt solicit attention. She focused on the yard smells today, no toys or treats interested her. Returning her to her kennel, she walked by like she didn't want to go in, even though her crate door was open. I turned her around and she walked by again, and then the third time she went directly in and it was easy to remove her leash. I hope with time she feels more comfortable, solicits pets, wants treats and relaxes a little. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
