About Arlo

Arlo, the Aussie mix Arlo is a 2-year-old Australian Shepherd/Catahoula mix who was found wandering alone in a rural part of Grant, Alabama in July 2025. He was picked up by animal control and brought to the Marshall County Animal Shelter, where he was assigned a mandatory euthanasia date. It didn't take long for Arlo to win over everyone at the shelter. They went above and beyond for him behind the scenes, advocating for him and doing everything they could to give him more time and a chance to be seen by the right people. They shared his story, reached out to volunteers for help, and made sure anyone who would listen knew about Arlo. When All The Dogs ("ATD") heard about Arlo's situation, it did what it does best: it showed up, stepped in, and turned the tide. Arlo is alive today because people came together with one shared goal: his wellbeing. Shelter staff, volunteers, and a rescue worked together as a team, showing what's possible when everyone focuses on the dog in front of them. I had the privilege of meeting Arlo recently and was immediately reminded of all the things I loved about my own Aussie, Cash, who passed away in December. Arlo is intelligent, attentive, and deeply connected to the people around him. He has an impressive level of coordination and athleticism. Every treat I tossed his way was caught mid-air. He watches closely, reacts quickly, and moves with a kind of natural coordination that makes playtime feel interactive rather than chaotic. Another ATD volunteer shared with me that Arlo loves to nap on the couch and is just as comfortable relaxing in front of the TV. That's where the "mix" in Aussie mix works in Arlo's favor - he's got the brains and the off-switch. Arlo is just as distinctive in appearance. Between his red merle coat and beautiful mismatched eyes - one icy blue and one soft brown - Arlo's a head turner. Please help me share Arlo's story and find him a home. Size: Medium Location: Chelsea, Alabama Neutered Microchipped Heartworm negative Vaccinations up to date House trained Crate trained Kid friendly Excellent in the car Excellent on a harness & leash Gets along with well-mannered dogs who understand social cues.* Affectionate and friendly, but may take a minute to warm up to new faces. Treats are a great way to win him over. Intelligent, attentive, and eager to learn Athletic and engaged when it's time to play, but relaxed and easygoing when it's time to unwind. Knows "sit" and other basic commands Can catch a dog treat in the air if you toss it to him Highly treat motivated Adoption Fee: $200 *Arlo would likely do best with a female dog or one with a submissive personality. A relaxed, easygoing male who doesn't feel the need to challenge him could also be a great fit. He recently tested well with a female black Lab mix named Duchess. Duchess is very sweet and she can be playful and silly, but what made her a great match for Arlo is her ability to read social cues. If another dog isn't interested in playing, Duchess simply goes off to entertain herself, which Arlo really appreciates. Their interaction showed that Arlo can do well with dogs who respect boundaries and don't feel the need to stay in his space.
