He’s looking for a calm, stable environment to thrive.
About Merle
Merle is a young, resilient cattle dog mix who has faced more than his fair share of challenges from the very start. Raised by hand as a bottle baby with eight siblings in rural East Texas and overcoming a serious leg injury as a puppy, he has developed smarts, grit, and a strong sense of loyalty. Merle isn’t looking to be everyone’s best friend—he keeps his circle small and prefers a peaceful, consistent environment. Busy neighborhoods, lots of noise, and constant change aren’t for him. He thrives with routine and plenty of breathing room, making him much better suited to a quieter, rural home rather than city chaos. Merle has some guarding tendencies and can be sensitive to stress, so he’s searching for an adult-only home with no children. He may do best as the only dog, or in a home where introductions are handled with experience and care. He needs someone who truly understands herding breeds and appreciates a dog with complexity and instinct, not just obedience. Merle is smart, capable, and deeply loyal to those he trusts. He’s in the Austin area, and the search is focused on finding an adopter within Austin, Northeast Texas, or Dallas/Fort Worth, so the transition can be done thoughtfully. He’s not for everyone, but for the right person—a quiet home, a strong bond, and mutual respect can make all the difference. Sometimes, the best dogs are meant for one person who truly gets them. They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now!
