Though skittish, she enjoys being around her people and gives sweet kisses to her foster mom’s fingertips while following her around the yard. Melba is not yet comfortable being petted or cuddled but is eager to bond with someone who understands her needs. As a project dog, Melba’s adoption fee is lower, aiming to attract a dog-savvy person who can help her with socialization and training. At 20 pounds and approximately 2 years old, she appears to be a Chihuahua/Pug mix. Melba is seeking a home with another friendly dog, as she has thrived in foster care with larger dogs, following their lead and displaying a submissive nature. While she has not been tested with cats, we believe she would be fine with them. This charming, endearing little dog has come a long way since being abandoned with a litter of puppies in California. Calm in the home, Melba loves to nap on her bed but has also shown a playful side with other dogs, getting excited to romp around with them. She is crate trained and sleeps quietly at night. Although she had one potty accident in her foster home, she readily goes outside and will potty on a leash. Melba is generally quiet and doesn’t bark much, but she does express herself with adorable little whines when she wants attention. While still gaining confidence on walks, she enjoys them more when accompanied by other dogs. Melba is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, microchipped, dewormed, and current on flea/tick/heartworm treatment.
