Your new best friend is just one click away. Meet Sam! Sam is a sweet, 6-year-old, 18 lb Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua mix who is starting over after losing the only home he’s known for five years. Once found as a stray in Arkansas, Sam was adopted into a loving family before his owner had to move into assisted living, leading to another chapter in his journey. After spending some time with a caring family member, Sam made his way to Colorado and is now settling into a foster home while he decompresses and adjusts to all the changes in his life. Despite the upheaval he’s faced, Sam remains an exceptionally friendly and loving little guy. He can be a bit confused at first, but warms up quickly and enjoys meeting new people. Both his previous and current caretakers describe him as very social, approachable, sweet, and eager to connect. He walks beautifully on a leash and truly enjoys accompanying his humans on outdoor walks and adventures. Sam gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has both lived with and regularly socialized with dogs of all sizes, even attending doggy daycare where he thrives in group settings. He does show some protectiveness over his food around other pups, so feeding him separately works best. Great news—Sam is also house trained! One important quirk: Sam is known to be quite the escape artist when left outdoors alone. Even with a 6-foot fence, he always managed to find a way out if unattended. He should never be left outside on his own and won’t be suitable for homes that rely on doggy doors or leave dogs unsupervised in yards. He is happiest as an indoor dog, enjoying supervised play, leashed walks, and quality time inside with his family. Sam will thrive in a home that offers him regular attention and companionship. His rescue requires that his adopter be committed to positive reinforcement or force-free training, ensuring Sam can continue growing into a well-adjusted companion. Sam is fully vetted, vaccinated, and neutered, so he’s ready to start his next adventure in a loving forever home. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
