About Jake

EMERGENCY PLACEMENT DEADLINE CLOSE OF BUSINESS Monday 04/27/26 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION ONLY THROUGH PACC Name: Jake Animal ID: A789795 Age: 4 years Weight: 72.5 lbs. Web Link: 24petconnect.com/PimaAdoptablePets/Details/PIMA/A789795 About: Meet Jake, a 4-year-old tan Lab/Pit mix who is as resilient as he is handsome. Jake’s journey has had a few twists and turns, but through it all, his affectionate nature and intelligence have never wavered. He is a smart, gentle soul who is looking for a dedicated family to give him the stability he deserves. Jake first came to the shelter in 2022 after a dramatic rescue by a local family—he actually ran right in front of their car and then hopped into the backseat as soon as they opened the door! During his brief stay with them, he proved to be a fast learner who was great with children and incredibly playful. Since then, Jake has spent time in foster and adoptive homes, and while life hasn’t always been easy for him, he remains a loving companion who just wants to be by your side. Jake is known for being very sweet and craves human connection. He already knows sit and is always looking for ways to show off how clever he is. Jake loves going out for walks and exploring the world with his favorite people. Because Jake has a bit of a history as an escape artist (we aren’t quite sure how he keeps getting loose!), he requires a home with a very secure yard and a family that will monitor his time outside. To set Jake up for total success, he is looking for a specific type of household: Jake is a big, strong boy and needs a home without tiny critters or livestock. Jake can be selective with other large dogs. He previously lived with a large dog successfully, but he will need to do a meet and greet here at the shelter with any potential canine siblings to ensure it's a perfect match. He has a history of doing well with children and would likely enjoy a family environment. Jake is a beautiful, gentle boy who has been through a lot and is ready to finally find his forever. If you have a secure yard and a lot of love to give, Jake might be the perfect addition to your life. Available for adoption only through PACC. Interested parties: Must visit PACC before the COB Monday April 27, 2026, deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with. Home Management Plan Dog Introduction Required: • Reason: Dog Selective: • Required Dog Meetings: Jake must meet all resident dogs prior to adoption to ensure compatibility. • Selective Play Style: They prefer to choose their own friends - they may get along well with some dogs but not with all dogs. Introductions should be monitored closely for positive body language and relaxed interactions. • Muzzle Training: Conditioning them to a muzzle before introductions is recommended. This provides an added layer of safety while keeping initial meetings low-stress. • No Dog Parks: Jake should not attend dog parks or other uncontrolled social settings. These environments can lead to negative experiences and may set back progress. • Behaviors could improve with proper management and/or professional training. • Slow, Structured Introductions: Introductions must be gradual and carefully managed in neutral territory. Monitor all body language closely, and end sessions on a positive note. No Small Dogs: • Jake is not suitable for a home with small dogs. • Reason: fatally injured a medium sized puppy. • Management: They should only interact with appropriately matched dogs under supervision. Avoid off-leash or uncontrolled environments where small dogs may be present. • Muzzle Training: HIGHLY recommend muzzle training for potential unexpected interactions with small dogs to ensure safety and reduce stress for all animals. No Livestock: • Jake is not suitable for a home with livestock such as horses, goats, or other farm animals. • Reason: recommended by a previous foster. Escape Risk: • Jake has a strong curiosity and may attempt to explore beyond confinement or containment areas. • Supervision Required: Always supervise outdoor time, including in fenced yards. Ensure gates and doors are securely latched before allowing them outside. • Preventive Measures: Use a properly fitted martingale collar and standard clip leash during walks. Avoid leaving them unattended in any unsecured area, including open garages, yards or vehicles. • Longline Use: When spending time outdoors in an enclosed yard, use a longline to give them extra space to explore while keeping them safe and under control. Do NOT use tie outs, leash should be held and maintained by the handler at all times. Should NOT be used in unenclosed or public spaces.
