7-month-old APOLLO has been with us since he was a young kitten. He is drop-dead gorgeous. Devastatingly handsome. A real looker. Why has he been here so long, you may ask? Is there a problem? Well, we'll be honest with you. Apollo was a bit on the skittish side. Okay, to be really honest, he was really skittish. People would come in to the big cat room and be immediately drawn to his looks. But when they approached to get to know him better, Apollo would promptly dash away. Lather, rinse, repeat. But we knew our boy had such potential. That underneath it all, there was a lovebug wanting to come out. So our staff and volunteers spent extra time with him to show him that a gentle pet or a scritch under the chin are not scary things, but are actually delightful! And slowly but surely, Apollo has come to understand that humans can be pretty wonderful after all. He has begun to seek out affection, to lean into a tender head rub, and to show his contentment with a soft and steady purr. It turns out we were right. Our boy is an absolute sweetheart. He is great with other cats, too. Apollo is truly a new man, and with each day he gains another dose of confidence. With the right home-- with a family that will give him time, understanding, and lots of love-- we know that our diamond in the rough will truly shine!
