MEET OSCAR At just two years of age and 12 pounds, this little Shih Tzu mix is an ‘old soul’. He’s wiser than his years and is more of a ‘stop and smell the roses’ kind of guy. Sadly, we believe OSCAR was teased and mistreated in his past… he was definitely neglected by the way he looked when he arrived at the shelter. His coat was long and matted and he was very boney under all that hair. He had a rough bout with kennel cough because of his poor condition too, but he’s healthy and slowly gaining weight now. We are still learning about him as his personality comes out and even changes with kindness and trust building. OSCAR is an independent type who has strong opinions on his likes and dislikes and will let you know with a grumbling growl… Hence the name OSCAR (the grouch) :) OSCAR has a favorite toy and will play a bit with it, but mostly spends his day relaxing. He really enjoys going on leash walks, taking in all the smells and he’s always ready to go in the car and find new places to explore. OSCAR is dog friendly and while he appreciates the company of other dogs to ‘hang out with’ he leaves the play to the others and prefers to watch the fun rather than join in. OSCAR seeks out attention and petting from you, but is not the affectionate cuddly type. He will gladly climb in your lap for pets. ‘Hugs and kisses’ are a bit too much for him at this time but we believe he’ll eventually learn to like them! He will be a good companion pet for an adult family and/or a small dog needing a friend. OSCAR can be protective of his food (we believe from his past neglect/ mistreatment) but he’s improving as he learns meals come regularly and treats are abundant. OSCAR is crate trained. He has no experience with cats or kids….while he was friendly meeting kids at our adoption event, we feel at this time OSCAR will do best in home with no young kids. OSCAR is ready to find his forever family who will show him the love and kindness needed to move on from his past… Oscar’s adoption fee is $400, which includes current health examination and vaccinations, neuter, microchip, flea and deworming treatment, along with any other medical or dental, deemed necessary by our veterinarian
