Upon arrival at JK9 Pet Services for an evaluation and training she was totally shut down and unfamiliar with the world. Jessica at JK9 pet has been working with her for quite awhile now to help her learn how to be a dog, gain confidence, and learn that humans can be trusted again. She has been thriving in her board and train foster home and now plays with toys, is learning new things, and has become an absolutely wonderful house guest and companion. She may be unsure of people at first, but she is starting to warm up more quickly the longer she is here. Like a typical German shepherd, she barks and alerts everyone if someone is in her home and she can be quite the talker. She even howls and does happy barks and woo woos now! Hayes would do best in an low-key home where she can feel comfortable and thrive. She can be a bit defensive if a dog is overly playful and annoying, so she would prefer another dog that she can co-exist with and not have to play 24/7. She can be a rough player, which can come off as intimidating to other dogs, but she would do fine with supervision and a slow introduction to allow her to adjust and decompress in between playing. She is crate trained, walks well on a leash, and house broken. She has been introduced to my cat and my chickens and showed no aggression, just mild curiosity. Hayes loves to just feel loved and to be with you, whatever that may be. She would benefit from light exercise and walks to keep her fit and her mind healthy, but she is a pretty easy going dog overall.
