About Canelo

Canelo, whose name means "cinnamon" in Spanish, is a neutered male Labrador Retriever mix who started life on the tough streets of Tulum, Mexico. After being rescued in poor condition, he’s transformed into a truly handsome, healthy, and well-mannered companion. He is mellow by nature—calm, relaxed, and easy to be around. Obedient and intelligent, Canelo picks up on cues and walks nicely on leash, but he can also enjoy some off-leash time when it’s safely supervised. He’s gentle and friendly with other dogs, and has done well sharing his home with a cat. Canelo has lived peacefully with children over five, though not with younger kids. He thrives in a calm environment and is house trained at his foster home. He’s fully vaccinated, heartworm negative and on prevention, and neutered. Canelo loves company and is known for his loyalty and laid-back spirit. You’ll have a chance to meet him in person before fully committing to adoption, and his patient temperament is likely to win you over quickly. Canelo is currently in Tulum, Mexico, and, once matched with an approved adopter in upstate New York or northern Vermont, will travel up on a commercial flight. This process can take time, so patience is a must. The rescue requires adopters to own their homes and be at least 22 years old—no renters or undergraduate students. Preference is given to those with a fenced yard, but it’s not strictly required.
