Meet Drako: Your Ready-Made Best Friend! Drako is currently waiting in Oklahoma for a family in a state where he can truly thrive. To get him to his forever home, we utilize a dedicated transport service. Once adopted, Drako will be ready for pickup at one of our convenient stops near the cities listed below. Please note that while he can be adopted in most states, he is currently unable to be adopted in Washington or Wisconsin. We take great care in our matchmaking, but we also offer a safety net: if it isn't a perfect fit, Drako will always have a spot back at our rescue in Oklahoma until his true forever home is found. The Basics: Age: 1 Year Old Weight: ~50-60 lbs (Medium full grown) Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog / Australian Cattle Dog Mix Are you looking for a dog who is already a "pro" at being a family pet? Meet Drako! This stunning boy is the perfect blend of two of the most loyal and intelligent breeds out there. Drako came to us from a home that simply had too many pets to give him the individual focus he deserved, so he is now on the hunt for a family of his own where he can be the star of the show. Why Drako is the Total Package: The Ultimate Socialite: Drako is a friend to everyone! He previously lived in a home with both small and large dogs and gets along wonderfully with all of them. Whether you have a tiny terrier or a big hound, Drako is ready to be their new best friend. A Natural with Kids: Drako has a huge heart for children. If you’re looking for a dog who will be a gentle and playful companion for your little ones, Drako is your guy. The Way to His Heart: Drako is highly motivated by his favorite treat—Peanut Butter Milk Bones! This makes bonding and continuing his training a piece of cake (or a piece of peanut butter!). Housebroken: His former owners noted that he is already housebroken, giving you a massive head start on your home routine! Training & Potential: A Patient Partner: Drako is a clever boy who is still learning that accessories are friends! He is getting better about having a collar and leash on him (Fast Facts graphic is out of date, we are working on collar & leash), but once he warms up and realizes it’s time for an adventure, he settles right in and is a great walking partner. With a patient hand and a few of those favorite peanut butter treats, he’ll be a pro at the "gearing up" part of his walks in no time. Health Update (April 20): Drako recently tested positive for heartworm. This is a very common and treatable condition, and it does not mean he can’t live a long, happy life! He is currently stable and can still be adopted in most states (excluding WA and WI). If you have questions about his treatment plan or how heartworm-positive dogs can still be the perfect addition to your home, please don't hesitate to ask! Adoption Investment: $700 (Includes all medical care and professional transport directly to your area).
