About Poppycock

Dog Name: Poppycock Breed: Great Pyrenees mix. Mom is a GP, Dad is unknown Sex: Female Age: 8-9 weeks Weight: 6.9lbs on 4/19/26 and growing rapidly. Medical Needs: Remainder of puppy shots, and rabies once old enough. Must be spayed/neutered by the end of August 2026. The appointment is included in the adoption fee at one of the clinics we use, and the foster-to-adopt family will need to email GRR to request the appointment when the puppy is 18-20 weeks at the clinic closest to them. (Options are Wilmington, Newark, Dover, Georgetown.) Keeping the appointment that's assigned by the clinic will be a condition of adoption. Foster to adopt families must live within one hour of DE and be willing to travel here for the pending appointment. Housebroken: Work in progress! Poppycock is still very young and has just started going outside. She will do her best to keep her pen clean overnight. She is doing as well as can be expected at her age when taken out on a regular schedule. For this reason, she cannot be left alone for more than 4 hours at a time. Crate trained: Poppycock is used to being in a pen; she should be able to transition to a crate easily. Good in the car: Yes, she rides quietly in a crate. Good on a leash: Poppycock just started going outside in her foster's fenced yard, so we haven't tried leash walking. Energy Level: Puppy! She goes from 0-60 and back to 0 in a flash. She loves to play and then settles in for a nice, long nap. Need a fenced-in yard: No, but keep in mind she will be a large dog, so if you do not have a fenced yard, leash walk training now, while she is small, is very important. Dog Friendly: Yes, she lives with her brother and a very grumpy 13-year-old chi mix. She loves to play with her brother and is very respectful of her foster brother's “leave me alone” grumbles. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its new home? No, but she would love an active friend. Cat Friendly? Yes! She currently resides with 2 cats. One cat wants to be in the middle of everything, and one gave her a warning boop on the head at their first meeting, and Poppycock is respectful of both cats. Kid Friendly: We don't have children in the home, but Poppycock loves everyone she meets. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with proper supervision. Keep in mind, Great Pyrenees dogs are herding dogs, so as she grows, she may try to “herd” her kids. Special traits that make your foster special, or that we need to know about them? Where to start? Poppycock has come a long way from living in a chicken coop in WV. She is the sweetest little girl who loves everyone she meets. She makes us laugh every day with her silly puppy antics. She is quite the snuggle bug after she gets her zoomies out. She is currently in her baby shark era; her razor-sharp teeth like to sink into anything and everything, including toes and hands. She is also quite the explorer, so she will need to be supervised closely when outside. She is a great little puppy who will grow into a fantastic, large dog and will make a wonderful member of the right family.
