About Papillon Dogs

Papillons are elegant, fine-boned toy dogs named for their butterfly-like ears (papillon means "butterfly" in French). Despite their dainty appearance, they are surprisingly athletic, intelligent, and spirited. They consistently rank among the top toy breeds in obedience and agility competitions.

Adopting a Papillon brings a bright, friendly companion who is far more athletic than their size suggests. They are great with families, adapt well to any living situation, and love learning new tricks. Their silky coat and graceful movement make them little showstoppers.

Spring

Mar – May

Labs shed heavily in spring as they drop their undercoat. By May, Phoenix temperatures climb into the 90s and Labrador Retrievers need shorter walks. Transition to early morning outings by mid-spring.

Summer

78°F to 106°F

Jun – Aug

Phoenix summer is extremely dangerous for active Labrador Retrievers. Pavement can reach 170°F and burns paw pads. Walk Labs only before 6 AM or after 9 PM and never skip water. Heatstroke risk is very high.

Fall

60°F to 95°F

Sep – Nov

September is still brutally hot for Labs in Phoenix. By late October, Labrador Retrievers can resume normal exercise on desert trails. November is ideal for longer hikes at Camelback Mountain with your Lab.
