About Zoe
Zoe is a small female Chihuahua mix currently in Russellton, PA. She weighs about 13 lbs and is between five and six years old. Zoe is house-trained, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines. She knows how to sit, has some understanding of 'stay' and 'down', and walks nicely on a leash. Zoe gets along well with other dogs at the shelter. She bonds closely with people, enjoying cuddles and attention. The shelter environment sometimes causes Zoe to feel overwhelmed, making her bark more and have trouble focusing, but she settles down during home visits and becomes affectionate and well-mannered. She needs regular exercise to burn off her energy and would benefit from a fenced-in yard for safe exploration, as she has fled before. If a yard isn’t available, she’ll need to always be leashed outside. Zoe has been a picky eater but is improving, currently eating soaked dry food and some canned food. She has some food-guarding behaviors, so her adopter needs to use common sense around meals. Like many Chihuahuas, Zoe can be reactive or snippy, especially if stressed. She’s not recommended for families with children under 12 and is not suited to apartment living, as she’s an alert barker and reacts to hallway sounds. Her ideal home is calm, patient, and structured, with adults or older children who understand her sensitivities. Give Zoe the quieter, attentive setting she needs to relax and thrive.
