Update 4/19/2026 Bucky is settling in well in his foster home! We received his DNA results and according to Wisdom Panel he is a mix of 3 breeds, 48% German Shepherd, 42% Poodle and 10% Golden Retriever. He had a vet visit this past week and is a healthy 8 month old pup weighing 52 lbs. He's heartworm negative and recovering from his neuter like a champ. His foster family is still getting to know him, but one thing is already clear, Bucky is a sweet boy who loves being around people. He's not much of a cuddler, but he enjoys being close, whether that's laying next to you on the couch or relaxing nearby on the floor. Bucky does show some separation anxiety when he's out of sight of his people or when left alone. Since we don't know much about his past, we're working on helping him build confidence and understand that his people will always come back. He also shows some fear in the car, but we're confident that with time and patience, he will grow more comfortable. He's met the resident dogs and, although shy at first, warmed up quickly. He's already becoming more comfortable and seems to be gaining confidence each day. It's possible he was an only dog previously, but he's adjusting well to having canine companions. Because of Bucky's breed mix and energy level, he will need a home (no apartments) with a family committed to providing the structure, exercise, and understanding he needs to thrive. Bucky is both crate and potty trained. We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process, which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, microchipped, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. Dogs in the greatest need take priority. Finally, we strive to work with shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless dogs.
