About Chili

Location Claremont, CA We don't know much about this tiny Chihuahua... but we're slowly learning who she is. Her name is currently Bambi, but we're hoping to find something that better fits her—so feel free to drop your name ideas below! She came to us from Bradshaw Animal Shelter and spent a few weeks with one of our amazing fosters, Monica, before making her way down to Southern California. When she first arrived, she was completely shut down—frightened, unsure, and not quick to trust. But today felt like a turning point. She gently placed her tiny paw on my arm, asking for pets... and when I stopped, she did it again. She's starting to mingle with the other foster dogs and is slowly finding her confidence. She does have some separation anxiety, which we're actively working on. We don't know her past, but some things tell a story. A broom sends her into a panic, so we quietly move it from room to room while cleaning to help her feel safe. She's a very quiet, sweet little girl—but she's extremely thin right now. She went on a bit of a hunger strike, so we had her fully checked out at the vet. Bloodwork and ultrasound came back normal, which is great news. We did have to muzzle her for the exam—she's a little spicy when she's scared—but who can blame her? For now, she's focusing on healing—gaining weight, building confidence, and learning that she's safe. She'll likely be available for adoption in a month or two. She'll need a patient, understanding home that will give her the time she needs to truly blossom. She's already a good dog... and we have a feeling she's going to be an absolutely incredible one. —
