About Extra-Toes Cat / Hemingway Polydactyl Cats

Extra-Toes Cats, also known as Hemingway Polydactyls, are cats born with more than the usual number of toes due to a genetic trait. Named after Ernest Hemingway, whose Key West home still houses a colony of polydactyl cats, these charming felines can have up to seven toes on each paw. The extra toes give their paws an adorable, oversized "mitten" appearance.

Adopting a Hemingway Polydactyl means welcoming a cat with a unique physical trait and typically a wonderful, adaptable personality. Polydactyl cats come in all breeds and mixes, so their temperaments vary widely. Their extra toes are harmless and often give them enhanced dexterity. These special cats make delightful, conversation-starting companions.
