Leonardo is an adorable adoptable dog waiting to meet you at AHS Newark. Though Leonardo wasn't always so handsome. He arrived at the shelter after being rescued when he was found abandoned in a park. When he first came in, Leonardo could usually be found curled up in his kennel, hoping we might pretend he didn't exist. Severely underweight at just 31 pounds, he needed immediate care. Since arriving, Leonardo has regained over 37% of his body weight through dedicated refeeding programs and closely monitored veterinary care. With that weight gain has come a bit more confidence, too. Leonardo is 2 years old and a friendly boy who has come a long way since the day he arrived. But despite his progress, Leo isn't thriving in the shelter environment. He's still nervous and unsure, and what he really needs now is a loving home where he can finally relax and feel safe.
