About Dottie
Dottie is a lively, nearly 4-year-old English Pointer finally experiencing the comforts of home after a tough start in life. Originally trained as a hunting dog, her fear of gunfire kept her sidelined for much of her early years, living mostly in a kennel with little freedom. Since moving into foster care, Dottie has taken to home life and especially loves running, sniffing, and exploring new places. She needs about an hour of exercise daily, broken into smaller bursts—she enjoys fetch and keeps herself entertained with toys. Dottie is a friendly and social dog who gets along well with other dogs and children, and she hasn’t shown much interest in cats. She does have a strong prey drive, so she’ll need close supervision outdoors; she’s quick to follow intriguing scents without hesitation. Dottie knows "come" and is learning house manners, picking up that countertops aren’t for exploring. She’s also getting the hang of house training and is quite comfortable in her crate, often tucking herself in for a nap. She’s eating three meals a day now and regaining weight lost during her transition. An active, outdoorsy home—especially one familiar with sporting or pointing breeds—will help Dottie make the most of her new life. With patient, consistent guidance and lots of opportunities for exercise, she will blossom into a loyal companion. Dottie is a Gemini, so expect extra curiosity and playful energy.
