About Becky

Meet Becky Becky (ACCT-A-247010) is an approximately 1-year-old spayed female who arrived on 4/7 as a stray brought in by police. This young girl is still trying to make sense of the busy shelter environment, and it's clear she would benefit greatly from a calm, patient setting where she can begin to feel safe. Becky can be very timid at first. In new situations, she may appear unsure-moving slowly with a crouched posture, tucked tail, and wide eyes. Despite this, she shows a gentle and sensitive nature. With time and a soft approach, Becky allows handling and will stay close to her person for comfort. She has even shown interest in seeking closeness, quietly sitting beside staff once she begins to settle. One of Becky's sweetest moments was when she chose to hop up onto a bench and lay beside a staff member, calmly sunbathing and watching the world go by. It was a glimpse of the relaxed, peaceful dog she can become once she feels safe. She is food-motivated and will take treats, which can be a helpful tool in building her confidence. Becky also showed appropriate, if cautious, behavior when meeting another dog-remaining close, offering polite sniffs, and coexisting without escalation. Becky is looking for a rescue placement where she can decompress in a quieter environment and continue to build trust at her own pace. She will thrive with a patient caregiver who understands fearful dogs and can provide gentle guidance, consistency, and reassurance. If you have room in your heart and home to help a shy dog blossom, Becky has so much potential to grow into a loving and loyal companion Behavior: Playgroup 4/14: Steerable 5/5 with can. Panting, tucked tail, slow entry, ears back. Opened up the longer she was in the yard, with loose body, mid to low tail wags, soft eyes. Engaged some push pull play with Jamil towards the end. On 4/11 Behavior Evaluation staff noted: "Kennel Presentation: In the middle of the crate chewing on her collar when I first walked into the eval room. As I got closer to her crate, she retreated to the back with wide eyes, ears back and tense body. I tossed a few treats in which she ate. Leash Skills: Attempted to use a treat lure to leash up. Had to lasso to leash up. Then did a treat trail to come out of the crate. Body crouched and low to the ground, tail tucked with ears to the side. We got to the door and she started to pull back on the leash and stopped eating the treats. I picked her up and carried her outside. Once outside she walks slowly with eyes wide/darting, tail tucked and ears back. Needed verbal encouragement to keep walking. Sociability: She stayed close to me. I sat on the bench and she came over with her front paws on the bench, I was able to gently pet. However her body would tense up and she would do slow lip licks. Becky then go up on the bench sitting next to me. Whenever I would reach over to pet her ears would go back, wide eyes and lip lick. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Labello. Tail tucked, wide eyes and tense body. Sniffed him and stayed close to him. Return to Kennel: Hesitated going through the door ways, needed verbal encouragement to go through. Went right into her crate and went to the back of it. Was able to remove leash with hand. Color Level: Exp Blue Recommendations and considerations: Keeping rescue only for now due to fearfulness. Needs a quieter area maybe like an office." On 4/8 staff noted: "Updating status to rescue only until further behavior info can be obtained." On 4/7 staff noted: "Put on eval due to fearful behavior" On 4/7 police noted: "Arrived at above loc police used noose to secure dog in back of police car transported to acct."
