Meet Monsky, a 3-year-old Pomeranian with a thoughtful soul and a heart that just needs a little time to shine. This handsome boy may be cautious when meeting new people or facing unfamiliar situations, but once he feels safe, his sweet and loyal personality begins to emerge. Monsky is looking for a patient and understanding home that will let him move at his own pace. He does best with gentle introductions and a calm environment where he can build trust and confidence. With time, he forms strong bonds and becomes a devoted companion who enjoys being close to his person. Monsky has lived with another small breed dog previously as well as felines (who were not fond of Monsky’s barking). A home with another dog is likely to help Monsky as he finds comfort in watching them interact with new people and situations and then follows suit. Monsky is still perfecting some life skills like potty training so adopters will need to plan on frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement to reward his progress in the day to day and encourage it for the future. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
