Meet Piper! Piper is a very friendly and affectionate dog that enjoys meeting new people, going for walks, and cuddling on the couch. She appears to do well around children and responds well to authority, particularly men. She knows sit, stay, come, go, shake, lay, and appears to be a quick learner. She is highly motivated by treats, but shows no food aggression or resource guarding. Her crate is viewed as a safe space for her and she will regularly enjoy laying in it and napping. While she doesn't play with toys very often, once she gets comfortable she enjoys chewing on bones, destroying stuffies, or playing tug of war. She would do best as the only dog in a home, receiving all the butt scratches and snuggles from her owners. Although she weighs around 50 lbs, she thinks of herself as a “lap dog” and always wants to be doing what you are doing unless it is her nap time. On walks, Piper loves to sniff her surroundings and receive pets from everyone she passes. She is currently working on leash training to reduce pulling once she gets excited by squirrels or other animals (including dogs). She listens to commands well on walks and can be redirected when she calms down. Once you grab her harness or leash, she easily helps you put it on by sitting down or pushing her nose through the harness. She has been overly playful with other dogs, lunging towards them on walks, but rarely barks. She would do best with at least one walk a day or time to run around off a leash. Piper is currently a bit underweight and displays redness on her paws, tail, and ears. She seems to suffer from skin irritation and allergies, so she enjoys scratching her ears and chin until they are red. Giving her a bath reduces her itchiness, but without consistent care her skin will become irritated. Once she was in the bath, she was calm and easy to handle. When nervous, she tends to bite her tail, but is easily redirected. She enjoys tearing up soft/stuffed toys, but has not demonstrated any destructive behavior towards furniture, shoes, or other objects. She dislikes the cold, rain, and snow. In the winter, she enjoys wearing boots to run around in to avoid the cold temperatures. She rarely barks, only when presented with unknown noises or when she's surprised.
