Bella is an adorable petite bunny-eared girl weighing just 42 pounds who is sadly on her second shelter stay. A sweet, wiggly, and shy lady, Bella doesn’t ask for much; she loves the simple things like hanging out with her family and going on walks. Bella’s volunteer and staff member friends have praised her for her reserved yet affectionate demeanor, who despite struggling with kennel stress upon her return to the shelter still manages to greet new people in a gentle, social manner. Adopted in 2022, Bella spent several happy years with her owner until they surrendered her back to the shelter on February 28th. Bella has a noted history of resource guarding dating back to her original shelter stay, and her new owner was informed of this at the time of adoption. While Bella was the only dog in the household initially, her owner added numerous other pets to the home over the years which led to additional instances of resource guarding between Bella and the other dog. The owner noted a recent incident where the dogs were not separated when being fed; they gave the other dog food while Bella was present, and Bella reacted aggressively, lunging towards the other dog and biting. However, the other dog was uninjured and the bite did not break skin. At the time of surrender, Bella’s owner said she does fine with the cats in the home but would likely be best suited for a single-dog setting. With her behavioral needs in mind, Bella requires a loving household that is equipped to manage her resource guarding, and ensure that any food or high-value items are given under supervision and while Bella is separated from any other resident pets. With additional training and proper management of her known behavioral needs, Bella is sure to bring light, love, and joy to her new family. At this time, Bella requires the care of a rescue or an experienced adopter to ensure she is set up for success in her next chapter.
