About Petey
Meet Petey! Petey is a 1‑year‑old, neutered Border Collie mix weighing about 30 pounds. He is medium energy level when playing outside but will settle when in the house. From the moment you meet him, it’s clear that Petey has a sweet, affectionate personality and truly enjoys being around people. After his first few days in foster, we have discovered that Petey is eager to please and responds very well to verbal praise & gentle corrections. He’s a quick learner and has already mastered several commands, including sit, down, stay, back up, and out. He has excellent manners. He pulls some when walking on leash, but is still easily manageable due to his small size. His foster mom is working on additional leash training. He has great recall when in a fenced backyard. He appears to have had some prior crate training. Petey has been crated overnight and for short periods during the day and didnt seem to mind it at all. He’s also been left out uncrated for brief periods with no potty accidents or behavioral issues. Socially, Petey has done well with the two senior female dogs in his foster home. While he tested their boundaries at first (as many young dogs do), he quickly respected their corrections and has settling in nicely. There have been no food aggression issues. He takes treats gently. He does have some herding tendencies, so homes with young children or cats might not be advised.
