Calvin showed up on a good Samaritan’s porch about 6 weeks ago. He’s a typical boy kitty and warmed up quickly. He loves scratches on the back of his neck. His foster mom noticed vision issues when Calvin would come around. It seemed like he couldn’t see well. During his exam last week, it was discovered that he had some corneal scaring and cataracts. His vet care team doesn’t think he can see much at all. Maybe some shadows. For this reason, his foster mom doesn’t feel he’s a good candidate for a true trap/neuter/release situation. Instead, he needs a safer place. He has been neutered and ear tipped, has his rabies vaccine, and is feline leukemia negative. Calvin is positive for FIV, but cats with this virus can live very long and healthy lives. FIV positive cats can live with non-FIV positive cats as the virus is only spread through very deep bites as occurs with fighting males or in utero from a mother cat to babies. FIV positive cats just need to be kept inside and given regular vet care to have happy, healthy lives. He does have dental disease and will likely need some extractions. Calvin is sweet and could potentially be a good house cat or porch cat (screened in porch). He uses the litter box well.
