About Sabree

Sabree (ACCT-A-246408) is a 4-year-old stray who was found hiding underneath a car on the side of the road, clearly overwhelmed and frightened. At intake, she was trembling and trying to stay hidden, showing just how scary the world felt to her in that moment. Since arriving at the shelter, Sabree has begun to show glimpses of the gentle, sensitive dog she truly is. While she is still very shy and unsure-especially in the kennel environment-she has demonstrated that she can build trust with patience and kindness. She will gently take treats from handlers and has even approached for affection in her own cautious way, nudging hands and offering soft licks when she feels safe. Outside, she begins to relax, showing a softer body and curiosity about her surroundings. One of Sabree's most heartwarming qualities is how much she blossoms around other dogs. In playgroup, she transforms-zooming, rolling, and engaging in gentle, dainty play. Though she can still become overwhelmed at times and may retreat to observe, her ability to open up socially with canine friends is a wonderful sign of her potential. With a confident dog companion and a patient adopter, Sabree has all the ingredients to continue gaining confidence and learning that the world isn't so scary after all. She was sitting and sometimes jumping with a wagging tail, relaxed face while in her kennel. Easy to leash, pulls a little just due to wanting to get in the play yard. She is a higher energy girl, who does jump and can be a little mouthy. She does sit on command and took treats gently from my hand. She had some zoomies in the yard, enjoyed chasing the ball and did allow me to pet her. She returned to her kennel easily " Per volunteer 4/9: I met Sabre for the the first time. She is absolutely adorable, walked great on leash for me, took treats gently, had so much fun playing in the yard, including having zoomies. She allowed me and enjoyed pets all over Per volunteer 4/5: Tried to do nosework with sabree but she was not at all interested. Stay in corner by kennel door and was not interested. Very shy. 4/4 Playgroup Notes: Steerable with water (3/5) and very steerable with shake can (4/5). Zoomed in the yard as soon as she entered. Hid near the bench and then zoomed around with other dogs. Timid at times. Overall Gentle & Dainty playstyle with some seek & destroy (chase me and I chase you) style play at times. Playgroup 4/3: Highly steerable. While waiting for gate greetings, handler lost grip on Sabree's leash and she meandered for about half a minute as staff around her attempted to regain control. When a staff member managed to grab the leash, she startled and flailed a bit in response to the leash pressure. Once she was at the gate, her FAS was elevated and her tail was tucked and ears were pinned back. Hesitant entry into yard, tolerated greetings from other dogs but was soon overwhelmed and retreated to a spot behind the bench. She accepted occasional greetings from dogs as they passed by, sometimes emerging to follow them and sniff, once even seeming like she was about to burst into zoomies, but always retreating to the bench. 04/02/2026 per staff behavioral eval: Kennel Presentation: At the front of her kennel in the corner, wide eyes, ears back, tense body. Took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: When the kennel door was propped open to leash, she remained in the corner with wide eyes, ears pinned back, closed mouth. Dodged the leash at first, needed a treat lure in order to leash. Once leashed she stayed in the kennel for a second before running out. Through the kennels her tail was tightly tucked, tense body, ears pinned back, whale eyes, franticly looking side to side. Pulled moderately on leash. Once outside, her tail was low, ears were forward, and her body was looser but still tense. Sociability: Army crawled over when I kneeled down with soft eyes, ears back, loose body and. When petting her, she would tense her body, ears pinned back, lip lick. When I stopped petting her, she would nudge and lick my hand with softer eyes and ears back. Took treats gently outside. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Madame Chalupa, fast low tail wags, loose wiggly body, ears back. https://youtu.be/omBYwmIpc8U https://youtu.be/rx94LadOSzA Return to Kennel: Walking back inside her tail was tightly tucked, ears pinned back, wide eyes, tense body. When she tried to go in the opposite direction and leash pressure was applied, she would pull back on the leash and buck. Was able to get her moving with treats on the ground. Stopped at doorways and needed treats to get through them as well. Hopped right into kennel and leash was removed easily. Body language remained the same while making our way back to kennel. Color Level: Experienced Blue Recommendations and considerations: Opens up a lot with another dog, very food motivated. Playgroup Notes 3/31: No steer test preformed due to fearfulness. Tail tucked, body crouched to the ground and ears back at the fence. When the dogs came up her tail came out, her body softened. Once in the yard she was zooming around, rolling on her back, loose wiggly body and greeting everyone. 03/31/2026 per staff: Sabree was laying flat on the floor right next to her kennel door when I approached, when she saw me she sat up and sniffed me.
