Darla — the sweetest shadow you’ll ever meet! At 7 years old and 16 pounds, Darla the Maltese has already lived a lifetime of hardship and healing. She was surrendered to a kill shelter in Augusta when her medical needs became overwhelming: multiple large mammary tumors, including one the size of a golf ball, and a severe infection from a previous surgery that hadn’t been properly cared for. She was at real risk of euthanasia simply because the cost of saving her was too high, but HFG stepped in just in time. Darla received major surgery to remove all her mammary tumors, treatment for her infection, and the kind of tender, consistent care she had never known. After antibiotics, rest, and weeks of loving foster support, Darla is healed—and ready to begin the life she always deserved. She is the sweetest little shadow, happiest when she’s following her people from room to room or curling up beside them. Walks are her favorite, especially when she gets the chance to roll in the grass—something she takes very seriously. What she truly wants is companionship, making her a perfect match for someone home often or a family who wants a constant, loving presence, including children, and is also good dogs and cats. Darla may be in her golden years, but she has the spirit of a dog who is finally discovering joy. She wiggles her little booty when you scratch her sides, hops right into your lap, and melts into you on the couch. She is affectionate, gentle, and deeply bonds to her people. After everything she has survived, Darla is ready for a family who will cherish her for the rest of her life. She is perfect, and she’s waiting for the perfect person to love her right back.
