Ziti is a beautiful, neutered adult male Shiba Inu with a lot of life and personality ahead of him. Shibas often live around 16 years, and at only 5, Ziti still has many happy, playful years to give. He loves a good game of fetch, enjoys being active, and thrives when he has someone to engage with. He has completed professional board-and-train and knows his basics well. He sits on command, even in busy public places like PetSmart, and does well on leash. With his e-collar, he has also been trained for off-leash work in appropriate settings. Ziti would do best in a calm, structured home where he can be someone’s companion rather than one of many. He is mostly non-reactive to other dogs on leash, but he is happiest when he doesn’t have to share his space, food, or attention. Like many Shibas, he has some resource-guarding tendencies, which means he prefers that his food and treats be respected as his own. Because of this, we are looking for an experienced home; ideally an older couple, single person, or adult-only household, where boundaries are understood and respected. A home without small children or frequent unsupervised child visitors will set him up for success. Ziti comes from a loving family who made the difficult decision to surrender him after a couple of minor, but important, incidents involving their toddler. In one situation, the child accidentally fell on him, and Ziti reacted with a quick nip. In another, the child was sharing food with him, and he again reacted in a similar way. In both cases, the reactions were brief and did not break the skin, but they made it clear that Ziti is not comfortable in situations where his space or food is unpredictable. Out of care for both their child and for Ziti, the family made the difficult and thoughtful decision to find him a home better suited to his needs. In the right environment, Ziti is an incredibly rewarding companion; loyal, intelligent, playful, and deeply bonded to his person. He’s not a beginner dog, but for someone who understands the breed and can provide structure and consistency, he is truly something special.
