Meet Bowi, a 3-year-old cream merle pure dachshund whose stunning coat and soulful eyes are only outshone by his irresistible personality. Bowi was surrendered when his owners moved to a building that wouldn't allow dogs—through absolutely no fault of his own. At 16 lbs of silky-soft, shiny coat, he is one of the most affectionate dogs you'll ever meet. He wants to be near you always: curled up beside you, on your lap, or sitting directly on your feet. He's always reaching out for a little touch or connection. Environment Bowi is high energy and loves his daily walks and play sessions. He is good on a leash but does pull; continued training with positive reinforcement will polish that right up. He doesn't require a fenced yard, though he'd certainly enjoy one. Bowi is currently in a transitional period with potty training—he's been wearing a belly band and had a couple of indoor accidents, but since seeing the vet we’ve learned he has a UTI, which, once he’s recovered should alleviate this. He's only been with his foster a short time and is already improving. He sleeps in a playpen at night and is relaxed and free-roaming during the day. One thing to know about Bowi: he really thrives with companionship. When left alone so far, he's let his feelings be known vocally. As he settles in and builds trust with his new family, this should improve—but a household where he isn't alone for long stretches will suit him best. Pets & People Bowi is a people magnet. He greets new faces with nose kisses and asks to be picked up—but he can be a little vocal with new males at first. He is soft and gentle in all his interactions, though he's not a fan of having his paws wiped (he's been known to voice his displeasure with a small grumble). He's gotten better with each wipe, so clearly he's a reasonable guy. He gets along great with other dogs. He loves to run and play, going full "parkour mode" with his foster's dogs. He is unneutered, which has contributed to some humping behavior during play—this should improve post-neuter. Bowi does not do well with cats per his intake notes, so a cat-free home is best. He pays no attention to birds, ducks, or chickens, which is a fun bonus. He is a little food snatchy, so supervised mealtimes are recommended if there are other pets. Health & Special Needs Bowi had his first vet appointment on April 8th and has been scheduled for neuter on 4/17 and will be available for adoption once recovered. Location Bowi is available for adoption from Miami, FL. His foster is happy to help with transport up to a 4-hour drive to his new home. Please email juliejohnson@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Bowi is $375.00.
