About Chance
How Chance arrived:Chance was brought in by a Good Samaritan. At SDHS:Chance has been vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped and is ready for his new home! Why Chance is the one for you:Chance is a bright, energetic young dog who brings a lot of enthusiasm to everything he does. He's the kind of companion who greets you with a wiggly body, a happy tail, and an eagerness to be part of whatever is going on. He enjoys being close to his people, often leaning in for pets, offering kisses, and bouncing around the yard with playful energy. He especially loves squeaky toys and will happily chase and retrieve them, making playtime a great way to bond with him. Chance is very food- and toy-motivated, which makes him a great candidate for continued training. He shows nice moments of focus, can take treats gently, and can settle once he's had a chance to burn off some initial excitement. He's also shown that he can be affectionate and engaged, leaning into handling and enjoying calm petting when he's in a more relaxed state. That said, Chance is still learning how to manage his excitement. When he first comes out or when something interesting happens, he can become very jumpy, mouthy, and physically enthusiastic. So it's important that his future home is prepared to work on impulse control and keep interactions structured and calm. He will do best with someone who can read his body language, redirect him appropriately, and reinforce calmer behaviors consistently. On leash, Chance may pull, zig-zag, or become very focused on his surroundings, especially early in walks, but he often settles after that initial burst of energy. He can also hesitate when it's time to return to his kennel or end an activity, sometimes needing a bit of encouragement, patience, or a fun incentive like a toy to re-engage. Chance may be a little unsure at first with new people, sometimes barking from a distance, but he warms up quickly with gentle voices and treats. He would do best in a home with older children (14+) who can understand his size, strength, and ongoing training needs. A quieter, more predictable home environment will help him continue to build his confidence and self-control. Overall, Chance is a fun, affectionate, and playful dog with a lot of potential. With structure, consistency, and outlets for both his physical and mental energy, he has all the ingredients to grow into a wonderful and well-rounded companion.
