About Sterling

Sterling started out as a street-smart stray, but these days, his favorite place is curled up on the couch. He’s an orange and white beauty who enjoys napping and making biscuits next to his people, always ready for a TV binge or some gentle playtime with a bird wand or bouncy ball. Sterling is a big fan of chin scratches and head kisses, and will reward you with deep purrs. When he’s comfortable, he even lets his foster mom carry him like a baby. Sterling can get overstimulated—he doesn’t like his back touched, and will make his boundaries known with a quick "love bite." Because of this, a home without children is best. He keeps a calm presence when left alone and entertains himself with toys or bird-watching from a window. Sterling is learning to tolerate other cats, but he plays rough and can be territorial. He’s best as an only cat or with a confident, experienced cat adopter who can help him settle in. Sterling has been with his foster a long time and deserves a stable home where he can thrive at his own pace. He’s ready to greet you every day with affectionate head bumps and his signature purr. Let’s make it official, apply to adopt!

Questions about Sterling

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Sterling, as an American Shorthair mix, will feel at home in a quiet, calm indoor environment where he can enjoy both cozy resting spots and engaging playtime. He'll do best in a space where boundaries are respected and overstimulation is less likely.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

An American Shorthair like Sterling is best kept indoors, where it's safer and easier to manage his stimulation levels. He'd appreciate a window perch to watch birds but doesn't require outdoor space to thrive.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Sterling is not ideal for homes with children due to his tendency to become overstimulated and his clear boundaries with touch. American Shorthairs can be adaptable, but in Sterling's case, an adult-only home is important.
