Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog. *You must be approved to adopt Summer before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs. *AGE: 8 years old (born September 2018) *WEIGHT: 60 lbs. *FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence is required--Summer LOVES to chase squirrels and bark at raccoons in the trees. No invisible/e-fences will be considered as we do not feel these would set her up for success. *COAT TYPE: low-shedding super soft fleece/wavy coat. Her coat will mat easily so her new family should be prepared for the expense ($100) of having her groomed every 6-8 weeks, and the daily maintenance of brushing her to prevent matting. Or grooming her at home. *ENERGY LEVEL: Summer's activity level is moderate - she LOVES playing in the yard but then can snuggle and rest with the absolute best. She plays like a 3-year-old instead of an 8-year-old! She would do best in an environment where she gets 1-2 walks per day as well as play sessions in the yard. She is also quite vocal! She loves to let you know if there is a squirrel in the backyard, someone walking past the house or someone knocking on the door. We have been working on curbing the barking and she is doing better but it is slow progression. *DOGS: Summer does ok with her foster dog sibling after giving her time to adjust. She is currently in a foster home with one large very calm Doodle and tolerates him fairly well. Summer would do best in a home where she is the only dog where she can get all of the cuddles and can have her toys to herself. She is not aggressive towards her foster sibling but likes to keep her toys to herself; she was initially reactive to him and growled at him over toys and food but is better now. *CATS: After a slow introduction Summer has learned to get along with her foster cat sibling. For the most part, she ignores him. However, it's likely she will chase a cat that she sees outside. *KIDS: Summer loves kids and would do well in a home with dog-savvy kids. She loves to play with our grandchildren ages 6 and 12 in the backyard. She doesn’t jump on them or play too rough. She does like to bark when playing but she’s not aggressive in any way. *CAR: Summer rides well in the car and settles nicely. *CRATE: Summer does not use a crate. She doesn’t like it at all. She doesn’t chew or get into anything when left alone so she is left loose in the house when her fosters are out of the home. *HOUSE TRAINED: Yes! *AT THE VET: She is very good at the vet. She was anxious at first and then she was fine with the vet and the exams; she wants to be right next to you. *WITH GROOMING: Great! The groomer said she was really good; Summer hung around with the other dogs waiting to be picked up and was the best girl. MEET SWEET SUMMER! Sweet, Sweet Summer, an 8-year-old female 60 lb. Goldendoodle, came into IDOG after a child in her former home became allergic to her. She lived with a family that included small children and a small dog. They only had her for two years and had adopted her from a neighbor. It was very hard for them to surrender her to IDOG, but they felt it was the best for her. Summer had a seizure the morning after she arrived in her foster home. She recovered quickly and she was then taken to the vet for a thorough examination. The vet determined that this was likely a seizure due to anxiety. She had a second seizure 3 months after that but there didn’t seem to be a trigger. The 2nd seizure was small and she recovered quickly. The prior owners said this might have happened once when they had her but they weren’t sure. The vet felt the seizures were idiopathic and no medication was needed at this time. After bloodwork at the veterinarian, we also discovered that her liver enzymes (ALT) were slightly elevated. The vet ruled out bacterial infection after a course of antibiotics which did not lower the level. He also ruled out cancer/tumors with an ultrasound. It is highly likely that Summer has mild chronic hepatitis that is easily controlled with inexpensive medication. She is presently asymptomatic. Here's what Summer's foster mom has to say about her: THIS GIRL IS PRECIOUS! She settled in to her foster home nicely after her initial anxiety and warmed up quickly. She is a complete love bug. She loves to cuddle and be with her people but she also loves to play in the yard and with her toys! She loves to take all of her toys out of the basket at the same time! Adjectives that describe Summer: -SUPER SWEET - she LOVES her people! -VERY INTELLIGENT – she learns very quickly. -THE BEST SNUGGLER in the history of SNUGGLES...you can tap on your chest, and she will just fold her little front legs and rest on your chest. She's a perfect bedtime snuggler as well. She will also gently give you her paw when she wants pets! Summer’s favorite activities are: -playing with her toys -hanging out with her family -chewing on a bone -keeping an eye out for squirrels in the backyard The ideal type of home for Summer would be: -A family that understands she may have ongoing medical needs. She is doing GREAT and has been seizure-free. She also is asymptomatic for her liver issue but may need medication in the future. -A home that will not mind that she likes to bark/whine at squirrels, dogs passing, people passing and people coming to the door. We do not let her practice barking in the backyard...she has to come inside if she's barking! We have also been correcting the barking at the door, but this will need continued training. -Summer is SUPER SCARED during thunderstorms. She shakes and looks for a safe space to hide. She uses a thunder vest that helps. I have also been giving her CBD chews when I know a storm is coming. She likes to hide in the bathroom with the vent fan on to drown out the thunder. She is not destructive in any way just very scared. This has not triggered an anxiety seizure since she has been in our home. -She would also do best in a home as the only dog or with a very calm dog sibling. She likes her space and her toys! Summer is a sweet, sweet girl. She is a beautiful dog with a great personality. So, her perfect home is out there, and we think it's someone who will be open to her medical needs because they are open to the GIANT love that is headed their way when they adopt this absolute angel. Summer is microchipped, spayed, and house trained. She is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. She is up to date on core vaccines. She is on natural flea/tick preventive because of the seizure and she has done fine with it. ADOPTION FEE: no adoption fee due to special needs TO APPLY FOR SUMMER-FLORIDA, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application
