He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. What my friends at ACC say about me: I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. I have lived with cats in my previous home. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. A volunteer writes: Daba makes an adorable first impression, if not an entirely welcoming one and that's ok. I admired how he stretched his little paw out on his box like he was in mid-knead and he decided to leave it as is. Really, so cute. I said songs could be written about that paw and Daba surreptitiously rolled his eyes and tried to explain that he was busy by pretending to nap. I know very well that snuggles (and compliments) aren't always the way to someone's heart, so I quietly closed Daba's condo door to sit and read for a little bit. The Daba I met before reading and the Daba I met afterwards are almost two different cats. The next time I held my hand out, he nuzzled into me and looked for more pets. This makes a little sense because in his previous home Daba was friendly and outgoing with people and other cats. There are times he likes to take a moment or so to warm up, which we see at the shelter, but we're so sure that after a little time, a lot of patience and love, Daba will become the sparkly young cat he's meant to become.
