Starlene is a gentle older girl who seems to appreciate the quieter things in life: slow walks, soft voices, cozy beds, and kind people willing to move at her pace. Even while not feeling her best, she has continued to show sweet, social behavior with staff, greeting people with loose wags and happily accepting affection. She may spend a lot of time sniffing around and taking in the world at her own speed, but when someone crouches down to invite her over, she often responds with soft body language and a desire to connect. There is something especially touching about senior dogs like Starlene who still lean into love despite clearly having been through a lot. Starlene does have several medical concerns that will need continued follow-up and supportive care, including skin issues, difficulty eating and drinking comfortably, and what appears to be some physical discomfort at times. Because of that, she would likely do best in a calm, patient home where people can be mindful of her physical sensitivities and let her settle in gently. Even with those challenges, she has continued to seek out companionship and affection, including happily backing herself into laps for extra pets. Starlene feels like the kind of dog who deserves soft blankets, understanding people, and the chance to spend her golden years finally feeling safe, comfortable, and cared for.
