About Marty
A volunteer writes: Marty has come a long way since his arrival at the care center. Although curious, he kept his distances, sampling treats only when alone while never ever showing any aggression, only shyness. The handsome and petite silvery gent came from a multi cats household, allowing very little contact with humans. Entering a shelter makes it even harder for such a kitty to thrive and be attractive to the general public. Time does its work, though as well as the enrichment provided by staff and volunteers. Marty has made huge progress and although he still needs encouragement, he comes forward and accepts petting. He even came on my lap yesterday... I was beaming! Marty is about ready to meet with a potential new family. Still, another change(leaving us for your home) might revert temporarily his advances and this is why Marty will do better in a low traffic home, without boisterous young children and with a patient and understanding owner. Marty is waiting to be your loving and faithful companion for many years to come! I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. What my friends at ACC say about me: Marty was curled up at the back of the den with his head and ears forward, focused on the assessor with a neutral body and eyes. When offering treats by hand, he steps back and tenses up. When reaching close to pet, he squints his eyes and lowers his head. When touched, he slightly flinches, tilts his ears to the side, and then turns his body around to face the back corner. He remains calm and tense when stroking his body and applying gentle upward pressure on his side and chest, lifting him up to the ceiling of the den. After placing him back down, he turns his head forward, and then he squints his eyes, slightly flinches, and tilts his ears when pet on the head and cheek again.
