Selena came into our care in June of 2024 after being taken in by Columbus Animal Care and Control. Prior to entering the shelter system, she lived a difficult life on a chain. Since then, she has gone from that environment to long-term kennel living, which has been a major transition for her and has contributed to her challenges. Selena has been here far too long and truly needs a patient, understanding home willing to show her what a safe and stable life can look like. While Selena struggles in busy or unpredictable environments, she is calm and settled when given quiet, structure, and space. The challenges: -Dog selective- Meet and Greets with resident dogs are required before she can be adopted. -Not suitable for a home with young children due to sensitivity to noise, movement, and overstimulation. -Has shown reactive behavior when startled or overwhelmed, particularly with loud or sudden noises (such as toys). -Can become anxious in high-energy environments and needs careful management and clear boundaries. -Requires a slow, patient transition into a home setting with consistent routines. The good stuff: -Has recently started to enjoy playgroups more and more. She is selective with other dogs and seems to do better with male dogs. -Very calm and relaxed when in a quiet, low-stimulation environment. -Does best when she can decompress and is not surrounded by chaos or noise. -Enjoys peace, predictability, and one-on-one attention from adults. -Shows that she can settle and self-regulate when her environment is appropriate. -Clearly capable of bonding when she feels safe and understood. Who she needs: Selena needs an adult-only home or a home with older, calm children who understand how to respect a dog's space and boundaries. Selena has spent much of her life surviving rather than living, and she deserves a home that will give her the time, structure, and compassion she needs to finally feel secure.
