What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Tonka is laying on her hidey shelf, head up, ears forward, and pupils slightly dilated as the assessor approaches. When the kennel door is opened and she is softly spoken to, she flops over on her side, rolling around. Tonka leans forward to sniff the assessor's hand before rubbing her cheeks on the side of the shelf wall. When petting is attempted, she initially flinches and closes her eyes before beginning to lean into it and softly head bunt. Tonka allows and leans into all petting and is able to be easily maneuvered down from the shelf and picked up. She remains a bit tense as she is held but is tolerant of it. When she is placed back into her kennel, she returns to the top shelf, continuing to roll around and lean into all petting. Tonka interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
