Lucy’s story began on the island of Saint Lucia, where she was rescued as a tiny puppy only a few weeks old. While many puppies quickly find their way to homes, Lucy had to wait… and wait… and wait. Because of travel regulations and logistics, this little girl spent six long months patiently waiting for her Freedom Flight to the United States. While other dogs came and went, Lucy kept growing, kept hoping, and kept believing that her turn would come. And finally… it did. Now that she has arrived safely in New England, Lucy is ready for the one thing she has been waiting for all along: A family to call her own. Lucy is a classic Potcake pup — loyal, affectionate, and deeply devoted to her people. She has the kind of gentle, joyful personality that makes Potcakes such special companions. At about 7 months old and 20 pounds, Lucy is still very much a puppy, discovering the world with curiosity and excitement. When fully grown, she’ll likely be around 30–45 pounds, the perfect size for both adventures and snuggles. Her foster mom describes her simply as: Lucy is a sweet, playful girl who is learning that the world isn’t such a scary place. Once she feels comfortable, her personality really shines—she loves running around the yard, playing, and being near her people. Lucy can be timid in new environments and around unfamiliar people, so she will need a patient adopter who is willing to let her move at her own pace while she continues to build confidence. Because of this, she would likely do best in a calmer home. Another friendly, confident dog could also help show her the ropes and help her feel more secure. She is still working on potty training and making progress every day. Lucy has recently started taking treats from hands and is learning that good things come from her people. Lucy may not be your hiking or adventure partner, but she will be a wonderful companion for someone who is looking for a gentle, loving dog and is willing to help her continue to grow.
