Chavela is a female dog who presented bright, alert, and responsive (BAR) with an abnormal hindlimb gait. She shows evidence of neurologic and/or orthopedic dysfunction affecting her mobility. Diagnostic evaluation, including radiographs, revealed abnormalities in the thoracic spine, which may be contributing to her gait changes and discomfort. These findings are concerning for a condition that requires advanced diagnostics, close monitoring, and likely specialized medical or surgical management. Spinal abnormalities can be painful and may progress without appropriate intervention, impacting Chavela’s quality of life and mobility. This level of care and recovery support exceeds what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment. Despite her condition, Chavela remains gentle and tolerant while receiving supportive care. She needs a safe, compassionate placement where she can receive thorough neurologic evaluation, advanced imaging if recommended, and appropriate treatment and recovery support to improve her comfort and function. This pet is at risk for euthanasia due to the level of medical care required, which exceeds what we can provide in the shelter.
