Hershel is one of those dogs you don’t forget once you meet him 💛At just 1–2 years old, this handsome retriever mix (with maybe a little sprinkle of cattle dog or shepherd in there for good measure!) is the perfect blend of playful energy and loyal companionship. He has that classic “mutt magic” — a unique look, a balanced temperament, and a heart that’s just waiting for the right person to give it a place to land. Hershel’s story isn’t an easy one. He was picked up as a stray last December, and no one ever came looking for him. Since then, he’s watched countless dogs come and go… each one leaving with their person while he stayed behind. 💔 It’s starting to wear on him a bit — and honestly, who could blame him? Even in the shelter, Hershel has held onto his joy. He loves to run, play, and stretch his legs, and when the zoomies hit, you can’t help but smile watching him. But what really makes him special is his softer side — he genuinely enjoys being with people, soaking up attention, and leaning in for pets and brushing like he’s been waiting all day just for that moment. Like many young dogs, Hershel went through a phase where he barked for attention (hey, can you blame a guy for trying to be noticed?). But he’s already settling down and showing that he’s capable of growing and adapting. He’s done well with most other dogs too, especially with proper structure and guidance. With a little consistency — and likely neutering — he’s going to thrive. What Hershel really needs is a chance. A home. A person.
