About Forrest

This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally. **Please read Forrest's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application at the end. Thank you!** Meet Forrest, a 3-year-old Boxer / Lab mix, weighing 40 pounds (as of 4/3/26). His rescue story is truly a lucky one. He was found in his foster mom’s Tennessee neighborhood after being dumped one day. Since no one came forward to claim him, heForrest was welcomed into the rescue, fully vetted, and immediately started enjoying a soft bed, good food, and lots of love! What a lucky break! But his luck doesn't stop there! Forrest wants to find the perfect fur-ever home! Forrest is a sweet and friendly guy whose favorite movie is Forrest Gump! In fact, he actually owns a Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant and can't wait to share all the yummy seafood with his family. Don't wait now! Bottomless shrimp won't last forever! Just ask Red Lobster! When he's not making friends with other dogs of various ages and sizes, you can find Forrest charming your neighborhood kids with his easygoing demeanor. He gets along with strangers of all kinds and while he has experience with cats, he definitely prefers a home without cats. Sorry kitties! Forrest loves car rides, so trips to the dog park or running errands would be a fun adventure for him. He especially looks forward to sticking his face out the window and yelling: "I'm king of the world!" (His second favorite movie is Titanic). He is crate trained, house trained (uses a doggy door), and is currently working on leashing. He can be a little mouthy at times with play but it's just because he's so excited! He hopes to work on that too. Forrest also knows commands like "sit" and "come" but he hopes you'll eventually say: "Run, Forrest, run!" Forrest can't wait to join your family! Bring him home today! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
