About Madame Chalupa

Meet Madame Chalupa, a sweet and sensitive girl who thrives with patience, gentle guidance, and a calm environment. At first, she can be shy and nervous, often avoiding eye contact or retreating to the back of her kennel. But with a little encouragement, treats, and time, she quickly shows her affectionate side-enjoying gentle pets, belly rubs, hugs, and even playful zoomies when she feels safe. Madame Chalupa is a food-motivated, loving dog who appreciates comfort and attention from her people. She can be wary of fast movements, loud noises, or new dogs, so she would benefit from a n adult-only home with experienced adopters who understand fearful dogs. While she enjoys one-on-one attention, she may need slow introductions with other dogs and may do best in a calm, structured environment. Despite her initial shyness, Madame Chalupa's sweet, playful, and loyal personality shines through when she feels secure. She's looking for a patient, understanding family willing to give her the love and reassurance she needs to truly flourish. However may consider a home with older kids if the adopters are experienced with fearful dogs. Per staff 4/2/26 (regarding dog meet): At first Madame had a tucked tail, hackles raised and ears back when meeting Sabree. Sabree was ready to play and coming on strong. I dropped Madame's leash and she became to zoom around playbowing to bouncing away from her. She will need slow introduction with dogs. Per staff 4/2/26: Approached kennel allowed her to sniff my hand ,she avoided eye contact and the leash as well. Loose body no growling or stiffening noted. Pt pacing back and forth. Was able to leash her without incident. She likes hugs and bum scratches. She loves to be comforted.Sat on the floor with her. Just appears to be afraid of loud noises or fast movement.(04/01/26) for sx. Per staff 3/31/26: Madame Chalupa was sitting on her bed when I approached with wide eyes and ears back. I tossed a treat in and she came off the bed to eat it. As I opened the door she retreated to the back side of her kennel and was short low growling. I was able to treat lure to leash up and she came right out. Pulled hard through the building. When we got into dog intake she did a shake off and loosened up then immediately went up to Anna allowing all handling. She was a little snatchy with treats and she went right back in the kennel but then tried to push back out. Playgroup 3/31/26: Steer test: 3/5 with water and 5/5 with can. Tail tucked, ears back and wide eyes at fence meeting. Entered the yard slowly, avoidant of the dogs and handler oriented. Put her self in the corner and barked at the dogs coming to say hi. Went to handler for comfort, then showed teeth to dogs who came up again. Removed from playgroup, will try to get a more one on one dog meet. Per staff 3/31/26: Did so good in intake! Came in and sniffed the whole room, let me touch her all over, got the zoomies and rolled over on her back and let me pet her belly. Very food motivated, let me give the vax in, but when we got to the chip she didn't like it, so both me and Stevie stopped and just finished off with the barrier and bord. Per staff 3/31/26: Sitting on her bed, wide eyes, ears back, hard barking, lip raising, low still tail, tense body. Threw in some cheese, softer eyes, low tail wags, looser body, no longer barking or growling. Per staff 3/30/26: sitting at the front of the kennel with her back to the door. Slightly turned her head with wide/hard eyes, low growling and barking. I offered a treat, dropped it in her kennel. She ate it and then continued to low growl/bark at me. Per staff 3/30/26: while under the car, kept backing away from and biting my control pole, hard barking at me with her eyes locked on me. When I managed to get her out from under the car, she stopped barking and her gaze started darting, rather than staying locked onto me -- ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
