About Jaxx

Meet Jaxx ACCT-A-244687! Jaxx arrived at the shelter as a stray on March 7th after being found the day before. The shelter environment can be a lot for a dog to take in at first, and Jaxx is still adjusting to all the new sounds and activity. He can be a little nervous in his kennel, but with patience, gentle encouragement, and a few treats, he starts to feel more comfortable. Once Jaxx is outside of his kennel, you get to see just how sweet he really is. He relaxes quickly, leaning into pets, and shows off his silly side. This sweet boy may be a little shy at first, but with a little patience he begins to open up and show you just how silly he can be. If you're looking for a soft-hearted companion, Jaxx is waiting to meet you at ACCT Philly. Eligible for rescue, and adoption. Meet Jaxx at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Videos : Jaxx likes pets! https://youtube.com/shorts/UlWsjse-iW4?si=R4Hi46Gjr68HCe9k Jaxx and Haze dog meet: https://youtu.be/1yoaO2SDDno?si=PG03XwIRDY2lLAZl Jaxx and Haze fence meet: https://youtube.com/shorts/3rMoQoO7bd0?si=LMrOdwdWytyfWBuc Jaxx knows sit! https://youtube.com/shorts/tN9g8NR5JyY?si=psAcnMT6bhSWL6UP Playgroup 3/11: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfMCm6kgAGI7Vq8Skb-neqaasHwSjId9v Behavior Notes : Per volunteer 03/15/2026: took Jaxx out for the photoshoot and he is still such a lovely dog. He's now in iso in a crate but he was so excited to get out! Jaxx allows all over handling and will lean into for pets. He's very smart and takes treats nicely from your hands. He sits like a gentleman. He also has really nice recall! He's very sweet and affectionate, loving everyone he meets! Per volunteer 3/12/26: The goofiest buddy ever. He just wanted to sniff and explore. He loved to run around with me. Per staff 03/11/2026: PGN: 4/5 water, 5/5 can, highly steerable, mid level tail, stiff meeting Kane, ears back, lip licking, high tail wags, marking, showing some interest in play , push / pull Per staff 03/10/2026: Kennel Presentation: Sitting in the corner of the kennel when I approached. His eyes were wide and ears back. Tossed a treat in, it landed close to him and he ate it. Leash Skills: When I opened the kennel door, he laid down with wide eyes, ears back and began to trembling. I tossed a few treats in close to him and he ate them. I was able to reach in and hand feed him a treat. Then I was able to do a treat lure and leash him up. Once leash was on, he slowly got up and came out of the kennel. Ears were back, tail down and eyes darting. Sociability: In the yard he spent a good amount of time with his nose to the ground. I sat down on the bench and let him just explore. After a few moments he came over to me and leaned his body into my legs allowing all handling with soft/wide eyes, ears to the side and tail down. When I stopped petting and continued to lean into me. He did get a little jumpy when I offered a treat. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Saw Dog ( that's the dogs name) when we were walking back to the building. He pulled mildly towards him, tail up, ears forward and started whining. Return to Kennel: Went right into kennel and took leash off with my hand. Color Level: Exp Gold Recommendations and considerations: Per staff 03/09/2026: After reading the walk sheet note from a volunteer who got him out last night and the ACA having trouble getting him out for a walk. Jaxx moved to the other side when the ACA attempted to leash with wide eyes, ears back and trembling. I let surgery know since he was scheduled to be neutered today to call when they were ready for him. I walked up to his kennel and he was laying on the bed. I slowly closed the guillotine door, jaxx got off the bed and came to the kennel door and sat down sideways. I was able to leash and he slowly came out of kennel. Ears still back, wide eyes darting and tail down walking through the kennels. In surgery he did a shake off and leaned into me allowing handling. He would push his whole body into me with soft wide eyes and have low tail flutters. The vet was able to listen to his heart while he leaned into her with loose body. Per volunteer 03/08/2026: Kennel Presentation: When approaching Jaxx's kennel, he was laying down trembling with whale eyes, ears pinned back, and avoiding eye contact. He also began to drool slightly. I tossed some cheese into the kennel, which he sniffed and slowly ate. He allowed the leash to be placed over him without issue but was reluctant to come to the front of the kennel or hop out. I attempted to lure him forward with cheese, but when he reached the edge of the kennel he would back away. When I applied slight leash pressure he backed up further, so I returned to offering treats. I sat with him and offered cheese from my hand, which he took gently. He allowed head pets but showed stress signals including lip licking and yawning. Due to his stress level, I ended the interaction and allowed him some time to decompress. Second Attempt: I returned later with Freshpet, which he eagerly ate from my hand. He again allowed leashing with no issues. He was still shaking but his body appeared looser and he gave a small tail wag. After he lost interest in the Freshpet, I switched back to cheese and was able to lure him to the front of the kennel. I gently picked him up and placed him on the ground directly in front of the kennel. Once out, he began walking with no issues. In the Yard: In the yard Jaxx visibly relaxed. He leaned in for pets and allowed full body handling. He offered small tail wags and would run over when called. At one point a dog in the adjacent yard was barking at him. When called, Jaxx disengaged easily and came running back, showing nice responsiveness and no barking toward the other dog. He also appeared to be attempting to remain housebroken, eliminating promptly once outside. Dog meet: He had a good fence meet and dog meet with Haze. Both dogs were a little stiff, Jaxx's hackles were raised and he did have a high wagging tail but he gave appropriate sniffs and did nice shake offs in between. Return to Kennel: No issues returning him to his kennel. He hopped back in on his own. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
