About Joy

4/3/26: Puppies!!! (We thought that would get your attention!) Foster to adopt homes needed! We have been helping a local family downsize their crew and we will be getting momma spayed for them soon. With most of our Candy Chihuahua boys finding homes now, we welcome our two Chihuahua Candy girls, Joy and KitKat. These little cuties are ~ 4 months old and shy, but they warm up quickly and are very sweet. At just 4.5 and 6.5 #, respectively, these pups will likely be ~10# full grown. Right now, they could each really use a foster to adopt home to get them started on their training, socialization and integration into a new doggie or kitty pack! Wondering if a Chihuahua may be a good fit for you? According to the AKC breed description, "Chihuahuas are charming, graceful and sassy. They are a tiny dog with a huge personality. A national symbol of Mexico, these alert and amusing "purse dogs" stand among the oldest breeds of the Americas. The Chihuahua is a balanced, graceful dog of terrier-like demeanor, possessing loyalty, charm, and big-dog attitude. Even tiny dogs require training, and without it this clever scamp will rule your household like a little Napoleon. Compact and confident, Chihuahuas are ideal city pets. They are too small for roughhousing with kids, and special care must be taken in cold weather, but Chihuahuas are quite adaptable as long as they get lots of quality time in their preferred lap." Heard enough about them yet? Ready to find out more? Read our foster or adoption requirements below! Due to their size, activity levels and age, foster to adopt requirements are: -Living within 80 miles of Adams, NY. -Having previous/current pets in annually at a local veterinary office and up to date on vaccines as well as spay/neutered. -Being able to bring each back to our vets office in Adams for additional care and their spay, prior to adoption. After adoption, we recommend taking them to your current vet to be established. -They are from a home with other animals so should do fine with likesized dogs/cats in the home! -They are small and shy around loud noises/fast movement at this time so homes with children over 10 years old are recommended. -Willing to have current family members come to a meet and greet to meet the pet and be sure an acceptable match. -Having time available to care for, socialize and start the training of a new pet. -An adoption donation of $500 is being asked for each, if you choose to adopt, but fostering is free. They had their initial vet check, are current on vaccines, dewormings and prescription flea and tick medications and all will be spayed in a few weeks, prior to adoption. The first step in our adoption process is the veterinary reference check so please be sure to call your veterinarian's office first thing tomorrow morning, so we can get this step out of the way.
