About Okinawa
Okinawa has left behind a hoarding situation and is quickly learning what a real home feels like. At just over a year old, he still carries a bit of puppy energy, but mostly he leans toward calm and affectionate. He’s a devoted companion who wants to stay close and happily transforms into a lap dog whenever given the chance. Okinawa keeps his crate tidy and is making solid progress with house training. On walks, he’ll do well if given a little time to get comfortable, and he’s happy to share a home with other dogs—though he needs gradual introductions before he’s ready to play. He has a tendency to alert bark and does best in a secure, structured environment, as he’s something of a flight risk. When he feels startled or scared, Okinawa might bark or react defensively, so very slow, careful introductions to new people are a must—especially at home. He's social out and about, but can be fearful indoors with unfamiliar faces. He thrives with an experienced adult adopter who understands how to work with nervous dogs and can provide boundaries, patience, and lots of positive reinforcement. Okinawa is looking for security and someone who will help him keep building confidence. If you want a fiercely loyal friend who’s happiest by your side, Okinawa’s worth a meet.
